There are 3 types of Differential Lockers for 4x4 vehicles. Will try to show the functions and differences between the types of differential lockers.

Crab Locker vs. Air Locking Differential

1. Function

  • crab locker and air locker have the same function. When the traction is low, you can switch the locker on, then the locker will lock the shaft axle of both sides to transit the same traction to both of the wheels.
  • both the air locker and the crab locker will use an air compressor to pump the air to the locker.

2. Difference

  • the seal housing assembly and the structure are different.
  • the crab locker has no seal housing assembly. In this situation, the crab locker solves the air locker’s air leaking problem of the seal housing assembly.
  • the air locker differential’s seal housing assembly needs to use a rubber O-ring. The O-ring is easily worn out and will lead to differential leak airs. This issue can be easily solved by upgrading the O-ring with the newer version called the X-ring, which does have a more reliable structure.
  • the price of a crab locker is higher than the air locker price.

E-locker vs. Air Locking Differential / Crab Locker

1. Function

  • the function of the E-locker and the air locker is the same. When the traction is low, you can switch the locker on, then the locker will lock the shaft axle of both sides to transit the same traction to both of the wheels.

2. Difference

  • air locking differential and crab locker are both air locking differential, powered by air, so an air compressor must be used.
  • e-locker is an electricity-locking differential, powered by a 12V current.
  • the structure between the E-Locker and the air locker is different.
  • the engine power between the E-Locker and the air locker is different.

Note:

  • when you change the driving direction of the car, the e-locker will automatically unlock and lock again. The whole process takes only about 1/4 wheel time.
  • the e-locker differential is more suitable in countries where the temperature is lower.
  • an air locker differential is more suitable for countries where the temperature is higher.
  • on our website the differential lockers are marked as follows: TR - air differential locker, TE - e-locker differential, TC - crab differential locker.
